One in 10 Homes in Birmingham Infested with Pests!
In a recent report, nearly 40,000 rented homes in the West Midlands were reported to have serious rodent infestations over the past year.
The housing charity, Shelter, stated that the current rodent figure – more than 39,000 – equaled one in ten privately rented properties in that area.
In this same study, 46% of residents in the West Midlands claimed to have experience housing issues relating to abysmal conditions and general disrepair.
April also saw the BPA (British Pest Control Association) branded Birmingham with the name the ‘rat capital’ after it was revealed that almost 15,000 calls/inquiries were made in a year.
However, this wasn’t only for rats, as 599 calls were made in regards to cockroach problems, 595 for bedbugs, 360 for mice and a massive 1,504 for wasp infestations. Whilst Birmingham is thriving in the social sphere, pests are a persistent problem. Luckily, we are here to put your minds at ease.
Knowing the Area of Birmingham
Birmingham is a city that attracts millions of visitors every year. In this historic city lies a plethora of Victorian and Georgian buildings alongside splendid architectural surroundings. Birmingham’s St Martin Church – also the oldest church in the city – stands a beacon of historic prowess and an elegant throwback to the city’s heritage.
Aside from the history, Birmingham is home to over 1,000 shops, the Bournville chocolate village, and was named by the BBC as the ‘young UK city.’ Sir Arthur Conan Doyle also lived and worked in Aston between 1878 and 1881 – Doyle was widely known for the Sherlock Holmes novels.
If you’re interested in pubs, bars, restaurants, and cafes then Birmingham is alight with these as well. Many of which can be found in the elegant St. Paul’s Square, and Birmingham’s renowned Balti Triangle is home to roughly 50 restaurants and takeaways. This is both good and bad; good for the residents, bad for pest eradication! Pigeons, rats, mice, and other common pests feast within these areas, it’s essentially paradise for them.
Birmingham also captures the rural high-life, the Botanic Gardens, the town of Sutton and the Eastside City Parks offer great days out, and another fantastic habitat for pests. Luckily, AMES’ experts know this all too well and we’re prepared to tackle these pests.
