At AMES we passionately support the hard work carried out day in, day out by all those at Acorns Hospices. Acorns provide a network of care to life-limited children and support for their families across the heart of England, with hospices in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester. Acorns community team also provide valuable support to families within their own homes.
For the last eight years Alan Read, Managing Director of AMES (Altek Midland Environmental Services), has remembered and celebrated the life of a dear friend Eamon Chipperfield, (or ‘Eames’), who passed away in September 2000 due to a heart virus. As a fitting tribute to keen golfer Eamon, each year the Eamons Memorial Cup raises funds for Heart Research Funds and the team at AMES together with friends of Eamon decided that valued local charity Acorns should also be supported through this years Eamons Memorial Cup. Similarly, acorns was also supported through the event in 2008, when thanks to the generosity of AMES clients, friends and business associates, £1562 was raised for Acorns hospices.
On September 24th another thoroughly enjoyable day was spent, this time at Henley Golf and Country Club, Henley in Arden, Warwickshire. The picturesque course situated on a hillside overlooking Henley in Arden provided a great setting for the day. The day commenced with coffee and bacon sandwiches, followed by 18 holes of golf. A three course evening meal was followed by presentation of trophies from the days golfing event.
Photographed with Alan Read are overall 1st place winner of the 2009 Eamons Memorial Cup, Terry James. Also photographed are Pete Grove who won ‘Nearest the pin’ and Dave Young who won ‘Longest Drive’ on the day. Raffle tickets and an auction rounded off the evenings fund raising.
