A hospital here in the UK has been instructed to improve its policies in order to deter the development of legionella and Legionnaires’ disease. The HSE were notified after a patient was believed to have contracted Legionnaires Disease whilst at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The case did not turn out to be connected to legionella. However, NHS Grampian was found to have certain failings in their policy on Legionella bacteria.
As a result they were asked to upgrade their policy. NHS Grampian have gone on to comply in full with the notice, which has since been withdrawn
