Birmingham bins chaos salmonella health warning as rats invade the city
Bin strikes in Birmingham pose the threat of rat infestation and are a “real threat” to public health, a pest control body has warned.
The National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA) said the potential for rat infestation could lead to a range of diseases including salmonella.
The industrial action by Unite concerns a row about alleged cash handouts to staff at the GMB union, who did not take part in strikes during 2017.

Bed bugs spotted at Clay High School
Clay High School says bed bugs have been seen in the building. They sent the following letter home to parents Friday:
If a report of any type of bug is made in the building, we make sure to inspect those areas thoroughly and treat as necessary. Unfortunately, there have been bedbug sightings in the building recently, and to ensure this does not expand to a school-wide infestation, the entire school will be treated over the weekend as a precautionary measure.

Plague of rats is ‘embarrassing’
A PLAGUE of rats is running riot in and around the River Avon in Chippenham town centre, according to a local businessman.
Rats are often visible around the river and the Town Bridge in broad daylight, said Jonathan Blacklock, director of Blacklock and Partners in Avon Reach, and is creating a bad image of the town.
“The place is heaving with them,” he said. “My office overlooks the river and you can see them running up and down the bank and swimming under the bridge.”
