AMES have been featured in this months issue of ‘Technician’ as part of the recognition that AMES have achieved Accreditation status with the NPTA (National Pest Technicians Association) following an audit carried out by one of the Association’s approved Auditors.
The editor of Technician magazine noted the NPTA Auditors comment that “If only other pest control companies would follow this ideal training system elsewhere!” The article goes onto state that AMES, situated in Frankley, Birmingham, have achieved a lot in the past few years as they have moved from being an ordinary member of the NPTA to the highly coveted accredited status.
The article continues “AMES was founded in 1990 by Alan Read the present owner and has grown to become one of the most successful and innovative Environmental Servicing companies. Commencing with pest control as their only theme in 1990 they have now branched out into the wider fields of void and dirty house clearances, gardening including general clearances, tidying and tree felling, washroom hygiene and deep cleans, special refuse contracts and collections, even anti graffiti systems. Originally covering the West Midlands they now have contracts taking them even further including to the Welsh borders”.
The extensive audit leading to NPTA accreditation was carried out on site at the end of October 2010 – this covered every aspect of the pest control side of the business. This included office systems (both electronic as well as their paperwork), their records including staff training and education, stores including stock records and systems, their fleet of specially fitted out vans along with interviews of the employees who are their Pest Control Technicians (PCT’s).
“The team of PCT’s are held extremely well together by Brendan O’Donnell as Service Manager and it was pleasing to see how they conduct their own internal equipment and material audits and supervise their staff. Their controlled access system to both the poison and goods store plus stock control sheets were found to be particularly good and deserve highlighting”.
The article and audit recorded that AMES provide rapid response to both homes and businesses for the following: Rat extermination, House mouse treatments, Wasp nest removal, Hornet and bee nest treatments, Garden pests including ants, Cockroach treatments, Carpet Beetle, Bird Proofing & Pigeon control, Flea infestations, Moths, Grey Squirrel Control, Flies and fly screens, Home fumigations and pest management. In addition, the Company provides an on call emergency response service operating 24/7 for those out of hours emergencies.
The article also covers AMES investment in apprenticeships and management training. The Result of the National Pest Technicians Association Auditor’s visit was that a recommendation was made to the NPTA Accreditation Panel for AMES to be Accredited with immediate effect and for their Accreditation, as per normal, to last for a period of 3 years in the first instance.
